The motivation here was that I had a MythTV frontend running in our lounge connected to a 42″ flat screen with LED back lighting, I had no need to have a screensaver and actually found it very annoying.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, at least on Fedora 16, disabling or removing the screensaver is not as easy as you might wish.<\/p>\n

Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
1.<\/td>\nDisable screen blanking. Start by running the following <\/p>\n

Applications | System Tools | Add\/Remove Programs<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

2.<\/td>\nUse this tool to remove all “screensaver” programs and
\nin particular:GNOME Screensaver “xscreensaver”.So from within “Add\/Remove Programs” search for “screensaver” and remove everything that seems like a screensaver function.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
3.<\/td>\nEdit the file “\/etc\/profile” you will need to do this as root:<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
4.<\/td>\nAdd the following lines at the bottom of the file<\/p>\n
xset dpms 0 0 0\r\nxset s noblank\r\nxset s 0 0\r\nxset -dpms\r\nxset s noexpose<\/pre>\n
Note: In the above they a zeros, not “O”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
5.<\/td>\nSave the file<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
6.<\/td>\nReboot.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
7.<\/td>\nOnce it has logged in again open up a terminal and runxset qLook for these sections:<\/p>\n
