{"id":1368,"date":"2013-07-31T21:55:17","date_gmt":"2013-07-31T09:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zoyinc.com\/?p=1368"},"modified":"2013-09-29T19:47:36","modified_gmt":"2013-09-29T06:47:36","slug":"installing-tiger-vnc-on-fedora-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.zoyinc.com\/?p=1368","title":{"rendered":"Installing Tiger VNC on Fedora 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">VNC is a great product that allows you to get a GUI session between different or the same O\/S.\u00a0 This article describes installing VNC on a Fedora 16 box<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Steps<\/h2>\n<table class=\"zsteps\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>1.<\/td>\n<td>Using YumEx or similar install TigerVNC<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2.<\/td>\n<td>Copy:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\/lib\/systemd\/system\/vncserver@.service<\/p>\n<p>to<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\/lib\/systemd\/system\/vncserver@:1.service<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Where I have &#8220;:1.&#8221; to which ever port you want to use<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>3.<\/td>\n<td>Edit the new file, specifically change &#8220;root&#8221; to the user you wish to start VNC<br \/>\nas:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"crayon:false;\">ExecStart=\/sbin\/runuser -l root -c \"\/usr\/bin\/vncserver %i\"\r\nExecStop=\/sbin\/runuser -l root -c \"\/usr\/bin\/vncserver -kill %i\"<\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4.<\/td>\n<td>Run the following to enable<\/p>\n<pre class=\"crayon:false; crayon-selected\">systemctl enable vncserver@:1.service<\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>5.<\/td>\n<td>Now that you have enabled it VNC will start automatically. If you want to start it now<br \/>\nyou should run<\/p>\n<pre class=\"crayon:false;\">systemctl start vncserver@:1.service<\/pre>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>Change resolution<\/h2>\n<p>If you are like me the default resolution is not the one you want. One of the suggestions is to change the &#8220;.service&#8221; file to something like:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"crayon:false;\">ExecStart=\/sbin\/runuser -l root -c \"\/usr\/bin\/vncserver %i\" -geometry 1280x1024\r\nExecStop=\/sbin\/runuser -l root -c \"\/usr\/bin\/vncserver -kill %i\"<\/pre>\n<p>This would potentially change the VNC session to 1280&#215;1024. This didn&#8217;t work for me, what did work was to change the resolution the normal way by going into the VNC session and selecting &#8220;Display&#8221; from the &#8220;System Settings&#8221; &#8211; it does seem to stick even through reboots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VNC is a great product that allows you to get a GUI session between different or the same O\/S.\u00a0 This article describes installing VNC on a Fedora 16 box Steps 1.
